Plumbing Emergencies We Handle

  • Burst or broken pipes flooding walls, ceilings, or floors
  • Sewer backups coming up through tubs, showers, or floor drains
  • Overflowing toilets that won’t stop running
  • Water heater leaks or a water heater that’s stopped working
  • Major leaks under sinks, behind walls, or from the main water line
  • Clogged main drains that back up multiple fixtures at once
  • Slab leaks showing up as water on the floor or a meter that won’t stop spinning
  • No water to the house
  • Gas line problems after the area has been cleared as safe

What to Do Before We Arrive

A few quick steps can limit the damage while help is on the way:

  • Shut off the water. Use the fixture shutoff valve if the leak is at a sink or toilet. For a burst pipe or a leak you can’t isolate, turn off the main water shutoff, usually located where the water line enters the house or near the meter.
  • Turn off the water heater if it’s leaking. Switch off the breaker for an electric unit, or turn the gas control to “off” or “pilot” for a gas unit.
  • Stop using drains if sewage is backing up. Don’t flush toilets or run the washer or dishwasher.
  • Move valuables and electronics away from the water, and stay clear of standing water near electrical outlets.
  • If you smell gas, leave immediately and call 911 or your gas utility from outside.

When Is It a Plumbing Emergency?

If water is actively damaging your home, sewage is backing up, you’ve lost water or hot water entirely, or there’s any chance of a gas leak, treat it as an emergency. Smaller problems like a dripping faucet or a slow drain can usually wait for a regular appointment with our plumbing repair team. When in doubt, call. We’ll help you decide whether it can wait.

Common Causes of Plumbing Emergencies in Northeast Florida

  • Aging pipes. Corroded galvanized, failing polybutylene, and worn copper lines tend to give out suddenly. Repeated emergencies are often a sign it’s time for whole-house repiping.
  • Tree roots in sewer lines. Roots work into older sewer pipes and cause backups. Our sewer and water line services find and fix the cause.
  • Grease and buildup in drains. Years of buildup can block a main line. Hydro jetting clears it out.
  • Storms and cold snaps. Hurricane season flooding and the occasional hard freeze both put plumbing systems under stress.
  • Old water heaters. Tanks past their service life can fail without warning. Learn more about water heater repair and replacement.

Emergency Plumbing FAQs

Do you really answer 24/7?

Yes. Our emergency plumbing service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

Where is my main water shutoff?

In most Northeast Florida homes, it’s near where the water line enters the house, often on an outside wall near the hose bib, or at the water meter near the street. It’s worth finding it before you need it.

Does emergency plumbing cost more?

After-hours service can cost more than a scheduled appointment. We’ll explain pricing before we start work so there are no surprises.

What should I do if my toilet is overflowing?

Turn off the shutoff valve on the wall behind the toilet by turning it clockwise. If you can’t reach it, lift the tank lid and raise the float to stop the water from filling. Then don’t flush again until the clog is cleared.

Is a sewer backup an emergency?

Yes. Raw sewage is a health hazard and can damage floors and walls quickly. Stop using all water in the house and call us right away.
